by Haydn Halsted

This July, one of Spokane’s most heartfelt summer traditions returns with rhythm, reflection, and community spirit. The Obon Summer Festival, hosted by the Spokane Buddhist Temple, is more than just an event—it’s a joyful expression of gratitude and remembrance for those who came before us.

Held on Saturday, July 20, this celebration of Japanese culture and Buddhist tradition fills Grant Park with live music, delicious handmade food, and the timeless practice of Bon Odori—dancing in honor of our ancestors.
