Spike & Dig Brings High-Energy Volleyball Action to Spokane

Every August, Spokane’s Dwight Merkel Sports Complex transforms into a hub of competitive spirit, athleticism, and community connection—and Spike & Dig is at the heart of it.
Founded in 1992 by Hoopfest co-founder and Hooptown USA Hall of Famer Jerry Schmidt, this tournament has grown into one of the largest outdoor co-ed 6-on-6 volleyball events in the world. With more than 300 teams and 2,000 players expected to hit the sand, it’s an action-packed weekend that brings together players and spectators for two full days of sunshine and sport.
