Celebrate Spokane’s Youth at the Junior Lilac Parade – May 10th

by Haydn Halsted

One of Spokane’s most beloved springtime traditions is back! The Junior Lilac Parade returns to downtown Spokane on Saturday, May 10, and it’s a heartwarming celebration of community, creativity, and the spirit of our local youth.

With music in the air, crowds lining the streets, and mascots mingling with families, this free annual event is more than just a parade—it’s a rite of passage for students and a joyful moment of pride for our entire region.

What to Expect

Each year, elementary and middle school bands, drill teams, youth groups, and clubs march through downtown to show off their talents, teamwork, and school spirit. It’s a big day for these young participants—and an even bigger cheer from their friends, families, and neighbors who come out to support them.

Highlights include:

  • Marching bands and baton twirlers

  • Drill teams and dance squads

  • Local youth organizations

  • Fun appearances by mascots like Butch the Cougar, Swoop from EWU, and Spike from the Spokane Chiefs

  • Community groups and local leaders walking in support
